• no longer just designing for browser but for all user experiences (what other devices can you think of?)
• what kind of content are you creating: images, video, audio, animation, pdf, fonts, etc…
• what type of functionality: eCommerce, collecting info, interactivity, accessing content on other sites (twitter, Facebook, google…)
• in this class focus is on front end design…minimal scripting, little or no programming
• learn skill sets as you need them or what you focus on. hire specialists

Different areas of web design

• generalist - can usually do it all, will learn or hire outside expertise
• visual designer - visual design and interface
• interactive designer - interactivity between user and site
• motion graphic designers - animated content
• front end developer - functionality through client-side scripting (now done by designers vs developers)
• CMS (content management system, ie wordpress) specialist - developing themes or extensions or whole CMS sites
