One of the best ways to counter-act apocaliptic visions on Gaming is to watch this video at TED by Jane Mcgonigal, game designer: HERE.
Pay attention to "epic win", "collaborative problem solving environment", "positive feedback in gaming", "10,000 hour theory of success". "urgent optimism-extreme self motivation", "social fabric (trust, bonds, cooperation)", "blissful productivity", "epic meaning". "Make the real world more like a game", "gamers are super-empowered-hopeful-individuals when playing".

  The future of Narrative

Powerpoint CLICK HERE

Very interesting choice.

The movie Metropolis (1927) directed by German filmaker Fritz Lang is a mandatory point when talking about epic narratives and technology. In this movie, a kind girl named Maria gets transformed into an evil robot that will betray her people (the workers in the factory) and enchant men to destroy them. It is a very interesting take on the theme of the "Femme fatale", something that obsessed the minds of the late XIX and beginning of the XX century.

Watch imagery from the movie at youtube,
