Looking at your 2 explanations, I don't think you undestand leveling&sharpening.

Leveling is defined by unification, enhancements of symmetry, reduction of structural features, repetition, dropping of non-fitting detail, and elimination of obliqueness (by the observer, in order to perceive).
Sharpening enhances difference and emphasizes obliqueness.

Briefly explain why the graphic/ diagram is exemplifying that principle.

In your example of continuity, that was actually a spiral.

I didn't understand your second explanation, because that image was creating an 8, if you unified white and black figures for being so close to eachother.

You have to be careful with how you build phrases. In some cases you make yourself very difficult to understand.

Those explanations are not working:
Second one for Closure (the image is just framed different).
Second one for Similarity (there is ONE different one, he is not "messed up").
Second one for Leveling/Sharpening (there is a wine bottle, not a wine glass. You don't explain why is sharpened)

Name each page slide with the name of the Principle.

POST 1. 20 points Questions about this module's reading. Call your post : "myname_post 1"

(Reading n 2: Chapter 4,"The song of the Alphabet in the Cyberspace". from the book "Digital McLuhan, a guide to the Information Millennium", By Paul Levinson.)

1. Explain how seeing differs from hearing in a psychological/ perceptive way.

2a. What is the difference between asynchronous and synchronous communication.

2b.Give me 2 examples of media that qualify on each category.

3. Explain how speech differs from the written word ("the alphabet") according to Levinson.

POST 2. 15 pointsSelf Reflection about the text. Call your post:"myname_post 2_Acoustic"

1.Tell me, in your words, how the Internet is an Acoustic medium. You can be creative with it, elaborate your own theory departing from McLuhan/Levinson thesis.

POST 3. 15 pointsReply to your choice of the best post n2.

2. Choose your favorite theory from the rest of your peers about the Internet being an Acoustic medium. Explain why their thought is, in your opinion, original/interesting/ well thought or well presented.

POST 4. 20 pointsCall your post:"myname_post 4_Midterms"

Answer those questions after watching the "selected QuickTime and Powerpoint Midterm projects" at:
http://soma.sbcc.edu/users/ajarabo/intro_Multimedia/mcluhan_students_midt.html

1. Choose the project that has successfully exemplified some concept that you didn't understand.
Explain what technique did the student use that helped you internalize the concept.

2. Which is, in your opinion, the most useful project from a communicative point of view and why.

3. Point out something in a project that has surprised you as successful.
(assembling technique, combination of an image with a piece of text, quality/meaning/ connotative quality of an image, originality of a display...)

4. Point out something in a project that could have been improved and explain how would you make it better, if you were called for a consulting session.

The points you have worked on turned out beautiful. Sometimes is a bit hard to follow, but it is put together in an intelligent way.

I wish you had included some other media and got deeper into slide 9, about emotions portrayed or triggered by media

You have concentrated the text in 2 or 3 slides, the rest are just illustration-slides.

I specifically talk about not creating slides that were just literally-illustrating a word.

Your "text" slides are big chunks of text that cover several issues. The text should have been broken into several slides with images.
The sad thing is that some of those slides exist, and you left them with no content.

Concepts are presented with a shallow perspective.
Several slides contain just generic pictures with no more thought.
No talk about data, which is a major point in Hot and Cold media theory.

Sometimes the examples made the concepts seem superficial.

Some concepts were a little bit unclear.

There isn't enough content.

Good design.
Good use of short phrases.
Sometimes phrases are not grammatically complete.
Some concepts are left at a very superficial level because of excessive simplification.
