These are the Instructions for the Fourteenth module of this course:

This week we are expanding on narratives for new media by discovering the work of Joseph Campbel and the theory of "the 12 steps of the journey of the hero" that evolved from his work on World Mythology.

Most games and recent action movies are constructed around the adventures of a hero character. The interesting point here is that this is a classical type of story, as old as humanity, collected from ancient times (and specially in Oral societies) through mythological stories or legends.
Joseph Campbel is probably the most complete scholar in mythology of the XX century. Joseph Jung is another major author in mythology and psychoanalysis, his theory about the "collective unconscious" as you will see this week, highly influenced a modern interest in Mythology. Joseph Campbel was a follower of Jung as a young scholar.

There is an important extra credit assignment attached to this module.

There are 2 different types of work you can choose from. Case 1 is for students proficient in Web design and production. I think that the second option is safer for most of the students
(a presentation, not a website)

Case 1, You can place your mini-site assignment on a server, once it has been built into an HTML web-site (you could host it in Google Drive).
The content of the site counts 50% so only go for this option if you got good reviews in your work.

Remember that: file names for images should not have spaces. Names of html files should not contain spaces.
The name of your folder (root folder) should not contain spaces or special characters either.

Case 2, a PowerPoint presentation on the "12 steps of the Hero's journey". Theory by Joseph Campbell (see resources on module 13).

You can direct your project towards Joseph Campbel's work, Mythological narratives , or the 12 step-structure visible in a movie, story or game.

The presentation is worth 200 points. I reserve another 100 points for students that demonstate excellence in their creative approach in this project.

The discussion will help you develop some of the ideas needed for the project.
