Creative Brief

Students will design images for a "learn to read" dvd. The dvd is designed for kids. Other products on the market like the Baby Einstein DVDs are comparable but are not as educational. "Love to read" is a playful, fun and educational reading tool. The DVD will incorporate phonics, rhymes, alphabet and photographic memory in addition to great sound and music. The look is creative, modern and stylish, not cartoonish like many other kids products.

Graphic Design students will design for the various chapters:

1. create an Alphabet with word-samples
2. create flash-cards of single words grouped in themes
3. create flash-cards of couplets - phonics
4. Visually communicate poems written by kids
5. Visually communicate stories written by kids

1. create an Alphabet:
create letters out of spaghetti, spun sugar, mud, water, ice, etc You can use photos, graphic elements, collage style

2. create single word flash cards in group themes:

jacket, slippers, ballerina shoes, tutu, jeans, trousers, hat, beret, underwear, socks, tights, bracelet, necklace, tie, scarf, headband, bow, boots, swimsuit, flip-flops, skirts, dress, onesie, overall, t-shirt,
3.2. Traffic Jam:
taxis, schoolbus, truck, tractor, car, SUV, volkswagen bug,
traffic light, street-sign, crossing, fire-hydrant, police car, fire-engine,
4.3. I love the countryside:
farm ranch, cows, dogs, cats, horses, grass, hay, strawberry fields, smells, flowers, wheat fields, wheat, corn, corn fields, chicken, roosters,
etc

For animation students:
Design a 3 sec animation (adding a 2 sec living hold) of one letter of the alphabet.
The letter needs to be readable and not too small (serif or non-serif).
Animation comp is 720 x 540, type in title safe.
It can be made out of different materials collage-style, strictly hand-drawn, stop-motion, photographic, or whatever comes to your beautiful mind.

The animation concludes with an image of an animal or thing

etc

The designs need to be original and self-made (no stock-photos). The format is 1920 x 1080 pix.
A more detailed creative brief will be handed out at the beginning of the class.
Selected student work will be featured in the Final Product.
