QR (Quick Response) codes

QR Codes were originally developed by Toyota to track vehicle parts during manufacturing (1994). The QR code is now being used in a variety of ways to market and advertise products and companies and to give different kinds of information, immediately!

Basically, it works the same way the vertical barcodes do that we see on any manufactured product (think grocery store). Anyone can now create a QR code and place the image on printed material includeing: business cards, posters, magazine ads, newspapers brochures. The QR code can also be used in websites and in videos.

So why add the QR code to your design?
What do you do with a business card someone gives you?
Most of us type the email address and website link into our smartphone to access at a later time. If that business card had included a QR code image, all you would need to do is open your QR Reader App (free download at App store) and it will scan the image and place the information into your phone. No typing necessary! The image carries information that you type into a QR generator and then read by the reader app.

There are many creative ways to use QR codes and they are just
beginning to become popular in the United States.

Below is a QR Code I made using the Kawa QR Generator.

To read the code, go to the App Store through your smartphone and Search for QR Readers. There are several that are free. I am using one called Scan by QR Cody City. Download and then open the App and focus it on the image below to see my message.
It's as easy as that!
