Island Project
According to the Mirriam-Webster dicionary, an island is
1: a tract of land surrounded by water and smaller than a continent2: something resembling an island esp. in its isolated or surrounded position:
__ a: a usually raised area within a thoroughfare, parking lot, or driveway used especially to separate or direct traffic
___ b: a superstructure on the deck of a ship (as an aircraft carrier)
___ c: a kitchen counter that is approachable from all sides3: an isolated group or area
For this project, you and a partner will create an "island" that "you" have found yourselves stranded on.
The "twist" is, this island cannot be surrounded by water and must NOT resemble what we know to be an island.
You and your partner will determine:
1. what the island is and its name
2. what you are and your names
3. how you communicate with each other
4. what you eat
5. how you entertain yourselves
6. what/how to clothe yourselves
1. Each of you will develop a list of random ideas/drawings using all the creative techniques of the semester, brainstorming, what-ifs, bugs list, doodles, weird combinations. This "list" should be similar to a stream of consciousness writing/drawing. Fill the page. I expect to see 2-3 pages minimum, filled with many, many RANDOM words, ideas etc. Keep this loose and fun. There is no wrong way to do this....except not to do it.All discussion MUST be done in the Moodle Discussion group. This is how I keep track of who is participating.
2. When each of you has completed this; scan and upload the pages for each to review in your group discussion area; begin a discussion as to what your island is and what you are and what you do there. Remember, this is a discussion of ideas to get each of you thinking DIVERGENTLY in a LATERAL way with FLUENCY and FLEXIBILITY.
3. From your discussion you will develop a minimum of 3 DIFFERENT islands. Write a short description of each island. From those choos the one you will continue to work on.
4. You will meet with me in SL during a scheduled time to discuss ALL your ideas.
5. Once I okay your idea, your team will prepare a storyboard (see links) that includes a slides of
• compilation of your scanned random ideas (from #1)
• the three or more islands and short description
• the final island idea PLUS the 6 items listed above.
Each storyboard slide will include an image and text to describe the topic.6. Your completed project will be a PowerPoint movie.
7. Each group will present in SL during exam week (date to be determined).
8. Each of you MUST be PRESENT to get a grade.
Your final presentation will consist of a series of slides or story boards to represent the process and end result of your project.
•To display this in Second Life each story board must be saved as a
512px X 512px jpg file at 72 dpi.• Each file must be labeled numerically in the order it is to appear (slide1, slide2 etc).
• Save the files in ONE folder labeled with the GROUP number and zip(compress) the folder and email to Sheri Munster (sherimunster@gmail.com).
• Sheri will upload the files and create a slide show in SL.
Once you have created your story board and emailed the files to Sheri Munster, EACH student will use these files to create a PowerPoint movie to upload to their assignment link along with the other parts of the assignment.
9. Week#15 will have the Island Project Assignment link where Each student will upload
.....a) their own set of random ideas/drawings
.....b) evaluation sheet completed for themselves and their partner
.....c) PowerPoint movie of completed project
