Untitled DocumenTeam Project: Video Game
Grade: 100 points
Due:

In 1971, the first coin-operated video game was installed in the student union at Stanford University.
In 1972, Atari was founded and they released the father of all console-based video games: Pong.

Since then, video games have become a $10 billion industry, with millions of households gathering around the TV
to play Xbox, Playstation, or Wii. Games are developed for everything from war scenarios and flight simulators to cooking challenges and dance competitions.

It's time you entered the world of video game development by grabbing your partner and collaborating to create a
video game for your environment or, better yet, of your environment (environment can be SBCC, Santa Barbara,
California, Second Life, or wherever you live, work or play)
.

Create a video game that revolves around something in your environment but it must also include at least TWO of
the Four objects that will be given to you in Second Life. You must also consider the intended gaming console
(and what features that console provides
), the point of view and scoring. Is it an action game, a role-playing game or a multiplayer, story-driven game? Who knows, you may get a call from Blizzard asking about rights!

Process:

  1. Contact your partner (this will be the same partner you worked on the Transport Device with).

  2. Research video games (especially if you are not a gamer).

  3. Decide as a team what your gaming environment will be.

  4. Use the What-If technique to begin brainstorming.
You may also include other techniques after the What-if process.

  5. Your team will develop a MINIMUM of 25 What-if questions with THREE answers to each question.
These questions and answers should cause you to think in a very different way.
Your responses do not need to make sense or be real.
From this process, you will develop ideas for your game.
Remember, each creative process is a starting point and will lead you into many different directions.
    Example:
What if the game centered around Isle Vista?
    - It could be about partying on Halloween.
    - It could be about the ghost that lives in the alley behind the bar.
    - It could be about life as a student.

  6. The What-if questions will include the objects from Second Life.
    Example:
What if the green object from SL was a secret opening to the exotic chamber of Rommy?
    - Magic elves could live there.
    - Magic dust would cling to your body and you would be invisible when you enter.
    - You would get drunk and vomit when you go through it.

  7. Use the Video Game forum to contact your partner.
Use the forum and/or Second Life to meet and share ideas.
You can use notecards in SL to share information and then post it in the forum.
    Whatever works for your team.

  8. Once you have decided on the game play, create ONE word document as follows:
  9. From the above information, create a slide show (4-5 slides) as follows:
