Assignment: Type Self Portrait
Grade: 100 points

Typography is the definitive tool for the graphic designer.
Most problems can be solved within the confines of this
expressive idiom. Subtle design decisions bring each solution to life.

Objectives:
1. Observe the differences in letterforms when choosing different fonts and point sizes.
2. Learning to work with type expressively by choosing fonts whose characteristics become the vehicle for solving each individual problem.

Your assignment is to type your first and last name using a variety of fonts and point sizes, and arriving finally at three designs that visually convey your PERSONALITY.

1.) Using Indesign, on page one, create a layout in which
your name (first and last, with middle name optional) is displayed 30 times, each time using a different typeface (font), sizing each one differently. Label each example with the name of the typeface, and the size.

2.) On page TWO, type three descriptive words that describe your personality. Choose typefaces that best reflect the words you have chosen and create three different type designs using your name (first or last or both). The arrangement of the letters plus the chosen font should describe your word. Place each design in a box appropriate for the size of the design and type the descriptive word related to the design just above the box.

3.) Give careful consideration to the positive and negative shapes within and between the letters. Make the proportions, textures, values, and directions of the letters important to each design. You are free to vary typefaces of each letter, use upper and lowercase characters, vary weights, use color, pattern, background color or texture, change direction of the letters, and use different sizes -- within any line of text. Do not use other elements. Use the type to solve each problem.

Creating outlines will allow you to move the letterforms
independently.
USE SELECTION TOOL (black arrow) TO SELECT WORD
TYPE>CREATE OUTLINES
With Type selected go to

3.) Save the Indesign file.

4.) Export as a PDF to upload and submit.
