GAME DESIGN.

Link to a PDF file from the Bureau of Statistics describing jobs in the Gaming field (general description destined to highschool students), HERE.

Game designers, design the content and rules of a game. Games are actually being recognized for their entertainment nature but "serious games" work in the area of general education, specific training and simulation. This is a field rapidly expanding exponentionally and is expected to take over the field of multimedia in the near future.

The writer creates the story line of the game.
After the writer/s have finished their work, there is usually a process of creating a "mock up" of the game.
This requires 2D and 3D artists that will design characters, backgrounds and basic environments for the game.
Then prototypers that will create the scripting to visualize this material with basic interactivity.

This prototype is "moved around" to find a company that will back up the project and produce the game.

Once in the stage of production We can consider 4 types of designers in the production of a game:
The lead designer is the main visionary of the game and coordinates the work of the other designers. They are responsible for all major design decisions.
The game mechanic designer designs and balances the game plays mechanics.
The level designer is responsible for creating the games environments (levels of complexity within the game).

GAME DESIGN. 2D/3D artists and prototypers.

Main Artist positions: Art Director, senior position that coordinates the whole artistic department with others, like Programming, Marketing or Scheduling. Lead Artist, manages an specific department: creating a method and maintaining consistency in the product.
Concept Artist, helps visualize ideas and guide other artists. They develop landscapes, Objects or characters following the aesthetic direction of the game.
Modelers
, build 3D Characters and environments following the aproved concept art. Animators, manipulate models (skelettons and riggings) to dictate how the character or object will move or react within the game environment.
Motion capture artists, organize the camera and coordination set up(sensors, plane reference) to record human or real movement that would be applied to a 3D character. Clean up and prepare the motion path.
